Having the chance to work alongside side numerous professionals, both within and out of university, has brought about a confident collection of work that has propelled JD in confidence, leading to creating a name and an identity for themselves within the industry, alongside winning a number of awards and commendations for their work. As well finding a number of inspirations from the people they have worked with who have traveled from across the world to help educate the students at Liverpool John Moores University. Such as Olabisi Adigun, a Nigerian director who founded Arambe Productions, the first African Theatre company in Ireland, who gave JD a good start to their career in ‘The Gods are Not to Blame’ giving JD his first major role as King Odewale and experience within theatres within other cultures. As well as Stephanie Greer, a guest lecturer who taught valuable practical lessons from within the industry and how to propel themselves as an independent actor. These opportunities and successes have inspired JD to pursue their passions within the drama industry forevermore.

Cast and crew photo of ‘The Gods are Not to Blame’ (2023)

Theory and research

Attending Liverpool John Moores University has been a detrimental aid in JDs education, not only in teaching JD about the numerous forms of theatre and production, but also how to perform to the best of their abilities. Learning how to study a fictional character in order to bring them to life, as well as how to utilise these characters and production methods in a day to day life, has all been what makes JD such a dedicated and effective performer. Their natural curiosity helps in their constant hunger to understand how a character should behave as well as the industry around them, constantly extending their knowledge and capabilities. Taking an interest in the works of Artaud and Sarah Kane, they have studied in depth on the arts of the ‘Theatre of Cruelty’ and ‘Schizo Theatre’ in order to recognise the art of performing one’s true self and incorporating yourself within a character to make those emotions portrayed genuine for the sake of the art form.

JDs dissertation: ‘Schizo Theatre: A Body Without Organs’ (2025)

Future Projects

Currently JD is creating his own media company and brand; Naus Productions.
