That’s Not What Happened
A revealing autobiographical piece about mental health
and the journey of self acceptance.

“That’s Not What Happened” is an autobiographical piece, written and directed by JD Justice, about the mental health issues of ‘Dissociative Phenomena’. The play explores how the author has come to terms with their mental health and learned to work with their condition rather than against it. It utilises an anthological style to illustrate the difficulties within a memory play method. As a first attempt of non-curriculum, the play gave opportunities to students outside a university environment, as well as becoming an inspiring piece to show we shouldn’t be ashamed of our mental health.
The Odyssey Simplified
Chosen as a final examination piece in order to graduate from University, JD Justice chose Homers “The Odyssey” to be performed as a one man retelling in a simplified format, to make the tale more engaging for newcomers to Greek Mythology The piece was received well enough to merit a 2:1 grade, granted JD Justice his bachelors degree.
The Mimic
An award winning first attempt at the Liverpool
John Moores University 48 Hour Film Challenge.
“The Mimic” was the first attempt at the Liverpool John Moores University ’48 Hour Film Challenge’ in which the only aids given were a genre and a single line that needed to be in the final edit. The short film followed the story of two true crime enthusiasts searching for evidence of ‘The Merseyside Murderer’, played by JD Justice, when their search is interrupted by that very same murderer, emerging from the icy Mersey River. The short film went on to win the Audience Choice Award, beginning a long streak of film challenge entries.
The Goons
A two time award winning silent film and entrant for
the Liverpool John Moores University 48 Hour Film Challenge
“The Goons” was another entrant to the Liverpool John Moores University ’48 Hour Challenge’ that, despite facing several extreme technical difficulties, went on to win both The Judges Choice Award as well as The Audiences Choice Award. The story follows a hired goon, Gunther G oon, played by JD Justice, as he’s asked to ‘take care’ of a target of the local mafia. Unfortunately, Gunther misinterprets his orders and takes care of his target Mrs Dalton, played by Elis Caixeta, by taking her on a date and making sure she’s well taken care of.
